BISAC: Fiction / Coming of Age

“Except it’s not a dream. It’s a memory. A fragment of imagination, a fiction of reality. It happened and it will keep happening. Sometimes, it doesn’t happen enough, and I fear I’ll forget.”

The Complete History of Cheektowaga (As I Remember It) is a coming of age story of a bunch of kids growing up in the 1970’s and early 80’s in
the very real town of Cheektowaga, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. Based on actual events and people, the story provides a flavor of life in a typical middle class, suburban neighborhood. They discover girls, alcohol, and the need for friendship in a world that seems to be getting ever more difficult.

But sometimes what you need most is not available. Or maybe you just need to ask.

Interspersed within the story are “history lessons,” slices of time from our characters’ lives. By doing this, the town of Cheektowaga becomes a part of the story, as we see it change along with our characters.

Beautiful, funny, sad, philosophical, and silly, Cheektowaga walks the line between
them all. Be ready to laugh out loud as you wipe away tears.

“Time is a cruel master. Time takes away dreams and leaves memories. Luckily, the memories grow through the years to the point that they take away the pain, the hurt, the truth.”
